KOTA KINABALU: STAR Sabah Secretary-General, Senator Datuk Edward Linggu Bukut, has expressed support for the Sabah Government and the State Attorney General’s Chambers in opposing the Federal Government’s application to stay the implementation of the High Court order concerning Sabah’s 40 per cent revenue rights from federal revenue collected in the state.
Linggu said the State Attorney General Datuk Brenndon Keith Soh’s statement clearly demonstrates that the Sabah Government has approached the matter in a constructive, transparent and good-faith manner in accordance with the High Court decision delivered on October 17, 2025.
“The people of Sabah expect the constitutional rights of the State to be respected and implemented sincerely. This issue is not merely about numbers or financial formulas. It touches on justice, dignity and the spirit of partnership within the Federation of Malaysia,” he said.
Linggu stressed that the High Court had already set a clear process and timeline of 180 days for the review and determination of Sabah’s entitlement for the ‘Lost Years’ from 1974 to 2021, and that all parties should focus on fulfilling the court’s directive rather than seeking procedural delays.
He noted that Sabah MPs and Senators from across the political spectrum have also recently reached a consensus to consider further legal action should the Federal Government fail to fulfil its constitutional obligation once the court-mandated timeframe expires.
“Sabahans are not asking for anything extraordinary. We are simply asking that the rights guaranteed under the Federal Constitution be honoured in good faith,” he said.
Linggu added that Article 112D of the Federal Constitution provides a clear constitutional mechanism to resolve the matter should negotiations fail, including the appointment of an independent assessor whose decision would be binding on both governments.
“In the interest of justice and the integrity of our federal arrangement, all parties must respect the rule of law and the decision of the court. The people of Sabah are watching closely and hope that a fair and principled resolution will be achieved,” he said.
