KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) continues to strengthen its role as a knowledge- and community-oriented university through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (YADIM) at an official ceremony held recently at the Multipurpose Hall, Federal Territory Mosque.

UMS was represented by its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Kasim Hj. Mansor, JP, together with the Dean of the Centre for the Promotion of Knowledge and Language Learning (PPIB), Prof. Datuk Dr. Ismail Ali, at the MoU signing ceremony.

“This collaboration is a manifestation of the university’s commitment to expanding strategic networks grounded in da’wah, the empowerment of knowledge, and community development,” said Dr Kasim.

The MoU ceremony was officiated by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Senator Dr. Zulkifli Hasan, and witnessed by the Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir.

Zambry described the collaboration as a reflection of the government’s strong support for partnerships between higher education institutions and national da’wah organisations.

Under the MoU, UMS and YADIM agreed to pursue comprehensive cooperation encompassing the development of da’wah programmes, joint research initiatives, professional training, and the implementation of community-based programmes.

The collaboration is anchored in the values of knowledge, well-being, and social harmony, in line with the Malaysia Madani aspirations and the university’s agenda of transferring knowledge to society.

For UMS, the MoU further consolidates the university’s position as a catalyst of knowledge and a strategic partner in community development, linking academic expertise with the nation’s current needs and the well-being of the people.
